秀秀直播 Newbies: From the Principal

Beyond the Bounds of 秀秀直播

The world is a big place and we need our students to cast their eyes and expectations into their place in it. The great strength of our College is the plethora of opportunities our students have to engage with the world. Such opportunities were exemplified over Term 3 when we had students participating on to New York and another on to Sydney and Canberra. Both Cultural Tours highlight our desire for students to seek new ways of learning, seeing and thinking about the world.

Later in the Term, our Year 11 REMAR students traveled to Mullewa north of Geraldton, to serve in the local community as part of their . This will be followed in December by more students travelling to the Philippines on our immersion.

Such experiences empower students to gain the skills, confidence and agency to make decisions and create opportunities that impact their lives and the lives of others in a positive way. Moreover, it creates the space for our students and teachers to develop soft and firm skills including adaptability, decision-making, problem-solving, resilience and self-reflection. Critical to these experiences is the role of our teachers. We are very fortunate to have teachers who are passionate about their specialisation which enable such activities to occur. I challenge all our students to take the opportunities that are presented across PK-12. Such a challenge encapsulates our and its intent to let their light shine.

Junior PALS Project 2019

Early this Term, students in Years 4 and 5 were part of an Arts experience; a song, movement and storytelling performance based on an abridged version of Dr Noel Nannup鈥檚 creation story, 鈥The Carer鈥檚 of everything鈥. The intent of this PALS Project was clearly communicated by these excellent performers as they told a story that encouraged us to reflect on Aboriginal culture and histories as we walk towards Reconciliation. In August, the students performed the item as part of the nation-wide Wakakirri Performing Arts Festival, semi-final, held in Perth at the Perth Concert Hall.

Student Voice

In Week 4, I held a series of morning teas and lunches for students across the College to listen to their opinions on the direction of the College. I trialed questions that will eventually become part of the consultation process for the development of the next Strategic Plan.

Hon Sue Ellery MLC, Minister for Education and Training 鈥 Visit to 秀秀直播

In Week 6, the Hon Sue Ellery, Minster for Education and Training WA, visited our school to discuss our mobile phone policy. Students, teachers and parents from Lavalla and Marcellin Campuses were in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to seek feedback on what we do at 秀秀直播 and how the voice of our community will be used as part of a wider consultation to develop a policy for schools across WA.

In our local context, put simply, phones are out of sight unless they are used for explicit learning. The Minister unpacked this with our students who were excellent in their presentation and discussion. The confidence and reflection on display exemplified the intent of our school to animate our students to have a voice and to be critical thinkers. The wider issues of social media and student interaction were also discussed as was our approach to the education of students and families.

秀秀直播 News Term 3 Week 8: From the Vice Principal

Learning happens in a variety of spaces; places where our interactions with one another shift from the formality of the classroom to the sporting field, playground or workplace learning experience. The great strength of our PK-12 College community, is how students come together to support learning and initiatives. This term, students from Marcellin Campus have supported the , Marian Campus Early Childhood initiatives and our very successful . The collaboration the students encounter during these opportunities reflects the intent of our and how we seek to develop skills of communication and conversation between students and peers. I extend my sincere thanks to our teaching staff who plan and prepare for these authentic and meaningful experiences.

CDP Update

The College has entered the final stage of planning prior to the commencement of the Learning Hub building project. Five organisations have accepted the opportunity to tender for the building contract, with the tender closing next Thursday 19 September. Following approval of the preferred builder to proceed, it is likely that possession of the site will be handed to the contractor at or around the commencement of Term 4.

In addition to the Learning Hub project, the footings for the new Lavalla / Marcellin bridge were installed this week. The bridge will be completed during October, with associated upgrades to pedestrian paths taking place shortly after. It is expected that the bridge will be in use by late October / early November.

Furthermore, the major upgrade to the artificial cricket wicket practice area and storage shed is now complete. This will see the College cricketers enjoy new facilities, with wonderful access to equipment which is now housed directly adjacent to the practice area. The shed also delivers upgraded storage facilities for the Outdoor Education program, replacing the older Sea Containers.

The College is very excited about the current program of works which will see all students benefit from the investment into these areas. For further information on the Learning Hub Project please .

秀秀直播 Arts Festival Parent Support / Volunteers Required

The 2019 秀秀直播 Arts Festival is taking place in Term 4 Week 1 (Wednesday 16 鈥 Friday 18 October). The three-day event will showcase 2D and 3D artworks produced by our PK-12 students, performances by our dance, drama and music students, free activities and a Parent Soiree.

This event would not be possible without the support from our entire PK-12 College community. We are in need of a number of parent volunteers to assist in the following roles:

Volunteers to hang student art, Monday 14 October (non-school day) and Tuesday 15 October, between 9.00am and 3.00pm
Require 3 鈥 6 volunteers each day to help the Art Teachers hang numerous pieces of student art. We understand it may be difficult to commit to a full day, so 2 鈥 3 hours would be fantastic.

Volunteers to serve food, Friday 18 October, 6.00pm 鈥 9.00pm
Assist with serving food at the Parent Soiree (no experience necessary).

Volunteers to serve drinks, Friday 18 October, 6.00pm 鈥 9.00pm
Assist with serving drinks at the Parent Soiree (RSA required).

Your help would be greatly appreciated, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Janine Gatto if you are able to assist thegatts@iinet.net.au | Phone/Text 0418 935 122

秀秀直播 Newbies: From the Principal

Every day I walk into 秀秀直播 I feel blessed to walk amongst a community of people who support one another. It is this unique quality that defines our College. Under each individual child sits a vast support network that seeks to challenge, collaborate, create and celebrate the learning of our students. This is a strength that exists to ensure that parents, staff and students all work together to set high expectations. At 秀秀直播 we hope to inspire every child to reach their potential by fostering an education in which they can Shine through Discovery.

Our youngest students have had the joy of celebrating their learning with family members during Term 2. Grandparents Day and Tinkering Day are features on our early learning calendar that encourage parents, guardians and grandparents to participate in our collaborative learning environment. The day is met with much enthusiasm by both the students and their visitors. The tradition of Mothers Day at 秀秀直播 remains extremely strong, with no better example of our Marist values and faith. 鈥業n the spirit of Mary鈥 is one of the Marist characteristics, with Mothers Day providing a grand occasion to showcase our love and support of one another. Fitness Friday and Coffee at the College continues to bring families together every Friday morning at the Marian Campus. Our Wellbeing Program drives a culture of inclusion and is helping to bring our families into the lives of our students.

As we bid safe travels to our students and staff heading to New York on the Arts Tour; and those journeying to New South Wales on the Humanities Tour, we acknowledge the many journeys and adventures our students have undertaken throughout Term 2, 2019. The outstanding commitment of our Netball team in Alice Springs at the annual Marist Netball Carnival; the Outdoor Education Camp for Year 9 students in Dwellingup; the Biology Camp for Year 11 students in the Perth Hills; the Design Thinking Course undertaken by members of staff at Republic Polytechnic in Singapore; the Year 12 Earth and Environment Tour to Kalgoorlie; Year 7 Camp to the Ern Halliday Recreational Camp; and our Year 6 Camp to Waroona. At 秀秀直播 we challenge our students to explore themselves through exposure to new cultures, ideas and environments. What an exciting plethora of opportunities await our students every term.

We celebrate the achievements of all students over the course of Term 2. From the achievements of our sporting teams throughout the winter NAS sports program, to the achievements at the ACC sports days. The triumph of our Ladies Hockey Team who went undefeated through the carnival was a particular highlight, as was the First XVIII AFL Team that won their division of the Jakovich Cup particularly exciting moments.

As we take time to pause at the midway point of the year, I encourage all families to be present to their children and the special time you can spend with one another. Embrace the connections to your own communities and know that you are always a welcome part of the 秀秀直播 community. I wish you well for the ensuing second half of 2019.

Reconciliation Action Plan

During Term 2, the College has been working towards the creation of its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The RAP is not only a strategic intent of the College through its Annual School Improvement Plan, but a firm commitment to place reconciliation at the very forefront of thinking within our College Community.

The RAP Working Group consists of 19 individuals from the College community. Individuals have been drawn from our parent, student, alumni, and staff community across the PK-Y12 College. This representative group is tasked with developing a plan that will carry forward the College鈥檚 aspiration to lead our community in reconciliation 鈥榓ctions鈥.

The support of facilitator Christine Sindley of Waangara Marra Consulting has been welcomed and fostered by the RAP working group. It is our hope to launch the 2020 秀秀直播 Reconciliation Action Plan during Term 4 this year.
