Humanities Tour / Arts Tour

Over the Term 2 break, we saw two College tours take place; the Humanities Tour visited Sydney & Canberra while the Arts Tour visited New York. Reports from staff and students have been hugely positive and I know our students have taken away some great memories from their time away. I was also very pleased to receive feedback from members of the public about our students on these tours. Our students were complimented on the way they conducted themselves in public areas and the manner in which they carried themselves. While it is always nice to receive such positive feedback as a school, these comments really compliment the families in our community and the children they are raising.

R U OK? Day Activities

Thursday 12 September was R U OK? Day 鈥 a day when we鈥檙e reminded to ask, 鈥淎re you OK?鈥 and to remember every day of the year to support people who may be struggling with life鈥檚 ups and downs. At 秀秀直播, we know that regular meaningful conversations can make a difference. You do not have to be an expert to ask how someone is going. This year in the build-up to R U OK? day we were shining a light on the times we should be asking our friends and loved ones this important question. We want everyone in our school community to know that if something is up with someone you know, if something is going on in their life or you notice a change in what they鈥檙e doing or saying, it鈥檚 time to trust that gut instinct and ask them 鈥淎re you OK?鈥

To spread this message, students on the Marcellin Campus were invited to wear yellow accessories on the day to show their support. They also enjoyed yellow cupcakes, a sausage sizzle and a variety of games at lunchtime.

At lunchtime the students were treated to a Science show by Mr Spriggins from the Marcellin Campus. The students鈥 hard work was celebrated in a wonderful way as a selection of the arcade games were featured on Channel 9 News as part of their coverage of Science Week. Occasions such as this deserve to be highlighted in the wider community as the STEM Festival is another excellent example of how we continue to live out our Vision for Learning. to see the Channel 9 live cross.

PK鈥12 celebrations for the Feast of the Assumption

Thursday 15 August was the Feast Day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This Feast day was chosen for the Marist Brothers at the time of their foundation by Saint Marcellin Champagnat, the founder of the Marist Brothers and Marist Education.

To mark this significant Feast and Day of Holy Obligation in the life of the Church as well as the international Marist Institute, our PK-12 College Community celebrated the Feast of the Assumption across the College. As one of 54 Marist schools across Australia, the Feast Day of the Assumption is an annual opportunity for all members of the 秀秀直播 community to gather, give thanks, and to celebrate our shared Marist identity.

The Marian and Lavalla Campus students combined to celebrate Mass, Buddy Day activities and the annual Lapathon to raise money for the work of Australian Marist Solidarity (AMS). All funds raised from the Lapathon will be directed towards the Kuya Centre for Street Children in Manila. The Kuya Centre is one of the College鈥檚 partner organisations of the Year 11 Philippines Immersion. In November this year, our Year 11 Immersion students will present our donation to Sister Kate O鈥橬eill, Director of the Kuya Centre, on behalf of the 秀秀直播 community.

Students on the Marcellin Campus gathered for Mass in the Gymnasium.

St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal

This Term, 秀秀直播 supported the St Vincent de Paul鈥檚 Winter Appeal by collecting blankets. This winter, many families, including children, have been forced to spend the night without adequate warmth or in some cases, without adequate shelter.

The 秀秀直播 Community endeavours to imitate Mary鈥檚 tenderness and concern for others, particularly the manner in which she lived out her faith with courage in the face of great pain and adversity. Donating a blanket is a simple way to follow Mary鈥檚 example and to live the Gospel Message to 鈥淟ove your neighbour鈥 (Mark 12:31). This appeal is one of the many activities and projects students and families are able to support throughout the year.
