The secondary years at ֱ are where young people begin to discover who they are, and who they want to become. At our Marcellin Campus, students in Years 7 to 12 are supported by teachers who genuinely know them, a pastoral care structure that takes wellbeing seriously, and a curriculum that challenges them to reach further than they thought possible.

Every student here is valued. Every voice is worth listening to. And every young person has something meaningful to contribute to this community and to the world beyond it.

Year 7 to Year 9 – Building the whole person

The middle years of school are a time of significant change, academically, socially, and personally. At ֱ, we meet students where they are and help them grow into the best version of themselves.

In Years 7 to 9, we focus on developing young people who are curious and resilient, who can work independently and thrive in a team, who think critically and care about the world they are growing up in. We encourage them to explore their interests, sit with difficulty, and discover what they are made of.

Wellbeing is central to everything at this stage. Every student belongs to a pastoral care group, is known by their teachers, and has access to support when they need it.

Year 10 – Year 12 – Preparing for a meaningful life

The senior years at ֱ are about more than results, though our results are something we are genuinely proud of. They are about helping young people discover who they are, what they value, and where they want to go.

Students in Years 10 to 12 have access to a broad range of ATAR and General pathway subjects, including Visual Arts, Drama, Dance, Music, Woodwork, Fabrics, Italian, and Technology. Our Pathways and Careers program supports every student in navigating their next steps with confidence, whether that’s university, TAFE, or the workforce.

Sport, co-curricular activities, and community involvement remain a vital part of senior life. Through the ֱ Sports Association, students can compete in eight community level sporting clubs, because we believe character is built on and off the field.

The St John Henry ֱ Learning Hub

At the centre of the Marcellin Campus sits our Learning Hub, a dynamic, modern space that reimagines what a library can be. Throughout each day it hosts lessons, seminars, and self-directed study, with resources that support learning across every subject.

After school, the Hub becomes home to our Homework Club, regularly attended by students who benefit from access to tutors and peer mentors. It’s a place where asking for help is normal, where curiosity is encouraged, and where students can stay connected to their learning beyond the classroom.

A community where everyone belongs

Inclusion at ֱ isn’t a policy, it is who we are. Every student who walks through our doors is welcomed, supported, and genuinely cared for. We believe that when young people feel they belong, they learn better, grow faster, and become more of who they are meant to be.

Our pastoral care program, combined with the breadth of our academic and co-curricular offering, means there is a place for every student here, whether their gifts lie in the classroom, on a stage, on a sporting field, in service to others, or in the quiet work of faith.

Academic Enrichment – SHINE Program

Every student at ֱ deserves to be appropriately challenged, whatever their
starting point. Our SHINE Program, available from Pre-Primary through to Year 10, is designed for students identified as having exceptional academic ability or talent.

In SHINE, students are encouraged to Solve, Hypothesise, Investigate, Navigate, and
Enrich, developing the higher-order thinking skills, creative problem-solving, and
intellectual courage that will serve them throughout life.

Guided by our four pedagogical principles, SHINE students are challenged to think
critically, collaborate with like-minded peers, create original solutions, and celebrate the
growth that comes from genuine intellectual stretch.

The program is designed with the College’s four pedagogical principles in mind:

  • Students are CHALLENGED to engage in critical and creative thinking tasks
  • Students are guided through COLLABORATIVE approaches to learning with like-minded peers
  • Students CREATE solutions and prototypes to demonstrate their learning and
  • The College and students CELEBRATE students’ efforts, learning and growth

SHINE at Marcellin

In Years 7-10, we are committed to ensuring that every student with exceptional academic potential is genuinely stretched, not kept busy, but truly challenged to develop their gifts in ways that matter.

SHINE in secondary school offers extension opportunities across multiple disciplines, with students working alongside like-minded peers under the guidance of dedicated teachers. Extension classes begin at different year levels depending on the subject and the student readiness, and learning experiences are designed around problem-based learning, design thinking and authentic real world application.

Program Selection

Students are invited into SHINE through a thorough, multi-faceted identification process drawing on both objective assessments and teacher observation. Each student’s progress, readiness and suitability is reviewed regularly to ensure the program continues to serve them well.

SEQTA

SEQTA is our online learning platform for secondary students and families. It brings together timetables, assessments, attendance, results, and teacher communications in one place, so you always have a clear picture of how your child is going.

We want parents to feel genuinely connected to their child’s secondary journey, not just informed of problems when they arise. SEQTA helps make that possible.
