Life Education Program

The Life Education Program is coming to the Lavalla Campus in Term 3 Week 8. Life Education aims to empower our students to make safer and healthier choices through education.

Parents are invited to attend the Life Education Van on Monday 9 September from 3.00pm 鈥 3.30pm if they would like to look at the Programs on offer. The van will be located near the basketball courts and parents can enter and speak to the presenters.

The Program supports children, teachers and families to explore a range of health topics such as nutrition, resilience, decision making, social skills and physical activity. Providing opportunities to develop knowledge, understanding and skills is important in positively influencing healthy behaviours.

Teachers select from a range of age appropriate health and social skills modules to best meet the needs of their students. Students visit the Mobile Learning Centre, meet 鈥淗ealthy Harold鈥 the giraffe, and engage in an interactive learning session featuring props, role play and audio visual material. This session is used as a platform to introduce and explore various health topics, which can then be consolidated and extended further back in the classroom using comprehensive student and teacher resources.

秀秀直播 News Term 3 Week 6: From the Deputy Principal Wellbeing Secondary

At Marcellin, we are encouraging our students to have a shared responsibility in how we work together each day. While this can be something as simple as how we interact and treat each other, it can also involve how we respect the learning environment we are privileged to have here at 秀秀直播. We have an increasing number of student led groups that are working towards enhancing College life for the benefit of their peers, while our Year 11 student leaders are currently undertaking their Leadership Program in preparation for their nominations for leadership positions in 2020. I am grateful for the high level of participation from our students and wish our Year 11 leaders all the best for the coming weeks.

秀秀直播 Parents 鈥 Monday 16 September

Respect for Space

While normally students conduct themselves in a pleasant and respectful manner, we have unfortunately had an increased amount of damage around the school. While this can take many forms, there are two main types I would like to highlight.

The first is rubbish around the school. While students are normally good with putting away their rubbish, it is a good time to remind each person about keeping our school clean and valuing the facilities we have. The College has a student environmental group who have been encouraging us all to be more mindful with recycling and how we look after our wonderful school facilities.

The second area is the damage that has occurred to our toilet facilities. Unfortunately, we have seen a spike in deliberate damage done to our facilities and this impacts on all students. If students notice any damage, or people not respecting our facilities, they are expected to contact their Leader of Wellbeing so the appropriate action can occur.

College Uniform

We have been making a conscious effort to ensure our students are adhering to the and presenting themselves in a respectful manner. We are pleased with the way the majority of our students conduct themselves each day, and we have also been impressed with the response from students who have been challenged to improve. I would encourage all students from Years 7 to 12 to maintain these high standards throughout the remainder of Semester Two.

School Shoes

In recognising feedback from some students and parents, it is also important that I clarify the uniform standard regarding school shoes. School shoes are to be black leather lace-up, not boot style, sport, skate, suede or platform soles. Any students who are not in compliance should have been notified and given a time period to resolve the issue.

I appreciate the support received from students and parents regarding this matter.

Thursday 12 September is R U OK? Day 鈥 a day when we鈥檙e reminded to ask, 鈥淎re you OK?鈥 and to remember every day of the year to support people who may be struggling with life鈥檚 ups and downs. At 秀秀直播, we know that regular meaningful conversations can make a difference. You do not have to be an expert to ask how someone is going. This year in the build-up to R U OK? day we are shining a light on the times we should be asking our friends and loved ones this important question. We want everyone in our school community to know that if something is up with someone you know, if something is going on in their life or you notice a change in what they鈥檙e doing or saying, it鈥檚 time to trust that gut instinct and ask them 鈥淎re you OK?鈥

To spread this message, we will be hosting an awareness raising event at the Marcellin Campus on the national day of action Thursday 12 September (Week 8). Yellow cupcakes will be sold at recess, and during lunchtime there will be a sausage sizzle, games and a band in Founders Court. Students are invited to wear yellow accessories on the day to show their support.

R U OK? is a national charity dedicated to inspiring all of us to have regular, meaningful conversations to support anyone struggling with life. You can learn more about the signs and how to ask R U OK? at

Assessment Guidelines and Procedures

Years 7-10

Please download and refer to the full Assessment Guidelines and Procedures below. Parents and guardians are reminded that missing an in-class assessment due to an unapproved absence, such as being on holidays, will result in a score of zero for that assessment. Getting a zero for an assessment is not desirable for all parties. Parents and students are requested to make every effort to avoid such a situation.

Years 11 and 12

Please download and refer to the full Assessment Guidelines and Procedures below. If a student is absent for an in-class assessment, a medical certificate is required to avoid a zero. If the unplanned absence is merely on the due date for an assignment or project, the task should be submitted electronically or via Student Reception. Parents and guardians are reminded that missing an in-class assessment due to an unapproved absence, such as being on holidays, will result in a score of zero for that assessment. Getting a zero for an assessment is not desirable for all parties. Parents and students are requested to make every effort to avoid such a situation.

The Assessment Guidelines and Procedures has been update to more explicitly address work due for Certificate courses.

Missed Assessments Years 7-12

The priority is for students to be in the classroom with their teacher when returning from absence. To maximise time within the classroom and to ensure assessment conditions are monitored, the College provides three times per week for missed assessments to be completed:

Fathers Day

We wish all fathers and father figures in our community a wonderful Father鈥檚 Day for this Sunday.

As a College community, we celebrated the gift of our fathers, grandfathers, uncles and father figures this week. The annual Fathers Day sausage sizzle and liturgy at the Marian Campus, the Lavalla Prayer Assembly and the weekly 8.10am Community Mass on Thursday were occasions in which we could acknowledge and show our gratitude for the gift of our fathers and father figures in our lives, while remembering and honouring the legacy of those fathers and father figures who have left our lives. As a College family, we remember those in our community who are unable to share this Sunday with their father or father figure.

Happy Fathers Day

Fathers Day recognises and celebrates our Dads and the wonderful contribution that they make in our lives. In our College community we celebrated Fathers Day through a number of events and liturgies, with Lavalla Campus events to be held on Monday. The joy and fervour of the events this week highlighted the love we collectively have for our fathers, grandfathers and those special men in our lives.

On a personal note, this Sunday will hold particular significance for me. Late last week I rushed back to my parents鈥 home in Sydney as my own father, Peter, had taken ill and had been placed in palliative care. Over the next five days, my mother and six siblings nursed him in his final hours, until he died peacefully on Monday. Such a time enabled us as a family to come together to reflect on the stories and our shared experiences with Dad. As the youngest of the seven children, Dad, to me, was larger than life itself. He was filled with joy and laughter and that attitude set the climate of our home. His presence was constant and his love unconditional. To me this was exemplified by his active role in my life including but not limited to coaching sporting teams, supporting my co-curricular pursuits and always being a source of advice and mentoring to this day.

Perhaps his greatest legacy was his unconditional faith in God and that commitment to serving others. In the last ten years Dad devoted his life to being a Chaplain in a dialysis unit at a local public hospital. He walked with so many people often in their last days. His message was always about love, forgiveness and hope. He carried a scripture verse in his pocket that he gave to people he walked with; it was this same verse we read to him over and over again in his dying days.

Heavenly Father,
When I am weak, You are my Strength
When I am Frightened, You are my Comforter.
When I am lost, You are my Saviour.
You are my Hope, the Joy, the Love of My life
Joshua 1: P 9 NIV

So simple yet so powerful!

Vale Dad and thank you for the support and love you gave us all.

Happy Fathers鈥 Day to all our families in our community. May your lives be enriched by the same love and hope that I was blessed to be given.

Hon Sue Ellery MLC, Minister for Education and Training 鈥 Visit to 秀秀直播

On Wednesday, the Hon Sue Ellery, Minster for Education and Training WA, visited our school to discuss our mobile phone policy. Students, teachers and parents from Lavalla and Marcellin Campuses were in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to seek feedback on what we do at 秀秀直播 and how the voice of our community will be used as part of a wider consultation to develop a policy for schools across WA.

In our local context, put simply, phones are out of sight unless they are used for explicit learning. The Minister unpacked this with our students who were excellent in their presentation and discussion. The confidence and reflection on display exemplified the intent of our school to animate our students to have a voice and to be critical thinkers. The wider issues of social media and student interaction were also discussed as was our approach to the education of students and families.
