Congratulations to Year 6 violinist Leila Woods for making the play offs for the Primary Strings section of the Catholic Arts Festival. Leila received an outstanding award for her solo performance of Salut D’amour by Elgar, accompanied by her mother Terri Woods. Leila was invited back to play off for the shield at Trinity College. An excellent achievement for Leila. Thank you to her teacher, Ms Hannah Herriman for her support of Leila鈥檚 music.

A sincere thanks to Miss Margaret Goldsmith, Coordinator of Music for her excellent coordination of all the entries. Miss Goldsmith has worked extremely hard again this year to showcase the artistic gifts of our students and staff as the Arts team of professionals, teachers and tutors work tirelessly to prepare our student artists and performers.

Catholic Performing Arts Closing Ceremony

The closing concert for the 30th annual Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools and Colleges celebrates the end of another fantastic year of performing arts in WA Catholic primary and secondary schools. The concert features music, dance and drama items which performed well in the festival.

The concert will commence with the performance of Koort Doodjarak Yewool (Heart Song) the Acknowledgement of Country, melody and lyrics written by our Primary Music Teacher and choral specialist, Mrs Nicole Boddy. This song, sung in part in Noongar language, is the Senior PALS project for 2019 and will be performed by the PALS Massed Choir, comprised of 100 vocalists from Lavalla and Marcellin Campuses.

The choir will sing in collaboration with Madjitil Moorna Choir, accompanied by professional musicians, Susan Bluck (pianist) who wrote and arranged the music for the song, James Webb (didgeridoo player) and Kobi Morrison (guitarist). This song has been professionally recorded and will be promoted by the Catholic Education Office – Aboriginal Education Improvement Team, for use within Whadjuk Country schools.

The College will also be accepting the Australian Catholic Superannuation and Retirement Fund Shield for the College鈥檚 2019 drama production of 鈥淢asquerade鈥. Tickets for the Closing Concert are available on the Perth Concert Hall website.

Years 3-6 Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to all our Year 3-6 students on a competitive day of athletics. It was very successful carnival with students engaged all day in track and field events as well as novelty events and ball games. Students showcased their athletic skills and celebrated the achievements of their team.

This year saw the introduction of the Flag Relay which proved a highlight for many. We were lucky enough to see the Year 3 girls triple jump record being broken by 4 students. Annabelle Lynch set the new record with an extremely impressive jump of 6.71m. The Year 6 boys relay was run in a record time of 1.02.63s by the Delany faction.

Congratulations Brigid for winning the Spirit Shield (captained by Maddy Carroll) and Knox for winning the Carnival Shield (captained by Harrison Warrick).

I wish to extend my thanks to our Physical Education teacher, Mrs Jemma Bulmer, as the planning and organisation that goes into events such as these are substantial. Her commitment and hard work resulted in an exceptionally run carnival. I also thank our administration and teaching staff and our maintenance and grounds staff for their efforts in contributing to the carnival’s success. Furthermore, thank-you to our wonderful and generous parent volunteers who helped throughout the day and to those who attended to encourage our students. Your support is greatly appreciated.
