Term 3 Week 10: From the Principal

As Term 3 ends we celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students across the College. At our Marcellin Campus Assembly, our Year 12 students were farewelled by the Secondary School. It was a poignant occasion as it called us to consider the relationships that have been at the heart of their Marist schooling experience and, as such, our family spirit. This Marist characteristic is foundational to building a strong vibrant community. It supports our young people to foster good relationships that can be formed, nurtured and celebrated. The challenge for Year 12 students in the weeks ahead will be the realisation that their school life has come to an end. The future is bright, but the journey they take individually will be diverse. Going into the world and making it on your own will be challenging, but all the same rewarding. Our students are ready to leave and embrace the opportunities that await them. We hope that that family spirit, of being in a Marist community, will stay with them in the years ahead. We pray that their memories of ÐãÐãÖ±²¥ are where they were formed and prepared for their future pathways. We pray for these students as they enter the final stage of their journey with the upcoming exams commencing next week. Year 12 students will conclude in Term 4 Week 2 with their final Mass and Graduation.

Mrs Paola Rich, Leader of Wellbeing Early Childhood, finishes her tenure as a leader in our community at the end of Term 3. Mrs Rich has been an incredible leader in our community for over 20 years. Her authenticity, professionalism and commitment to young people has been exemplary. Our children in early childhood have been so blessed to have Mrs Rich in their lives. As a leader she has been a great mentor and role model to so many teachers. Mrs Rich will go on leave and return to the College in a teaching role in 2020.

We wish all students and their families a safe and happy holiday.

Year 11 General Outdoor Education Mountain Bike Camp

On Monday 10 September, the Year 11 General OE class set off on a Mountain Bike Camp that took us along the Munda Biddi trail. We started at Lake Brockman approximately 2 hours south and followed the Munda Biddi trail until we reached Dwellingup. The first day was tough, we rode 70 kilometres across all different types of terrain. It rained the majority of the day, at times it was torrential, we got soaked and it was really cold, but that didn’t stop us as we managed to find a way through and make it to the end. The rain, cold and mud was a great challenge, but we all stayed positive and that helped us overcome how difficult the day was.

Once we got back we set up our tents and then hit the showers! This was the highlight of the camp because everyone just about had hyperthermia at this point. After the shower it was time to start making dinner on the trangia’s. Some people cooked quickly, while others took a while and some people’s meals looked better than others. Not long after dinner we all went to bed to recharge for the next day.

We woke at 6.30am to ensure we leave the campsite at 8.00am. We all got up slowly, our bodies stiff and sore. We packed up the tents and loaded everything back on the bus. The first couple of kilometres were a struggle as our bodies were trying to warm up after yesterday’s efforts. The day however felt a lot shorter and easier than the first. Towards the end of the ride there was a massive downhill where we reached speeds of 70km/hr. This was another highlight of the camp. In the end we rode 45 kilometres and met Mr Van who picked us up in the bus and took us home.

Overall the camp was tough and challenging, however I thought it benefited everyone as we all worked together to get through these challenging times.

Term 3 Week 10: From the Dean of Wellbeing

Importance of celebrating student achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

On the weekend, the Marist Year 12 football team won their Grand Final, Year 12 student, Bec Viney won the A Grade Amateur Women’s Best and Fairest and is the youngest female to win the award, and this year we had a record number of entries in the Catholic Arts Festival.

Acknowledging student achievements is important for the wellbeing of students and serves to inspire others to strive for excellence. Belonging to groups within school, or beyond the College community helps to support young people to engage in activities with others and commit to an interest that gives them a sense of purpose.

At ÐãÐãÖ±²¥, ‘celebration’ is the public recognition of our individual and collective success. We celebrate by honoring the accomplishments, achievements and contributions of all members of the College community, encouraging personal growth and discovery. The close of every term brings many moments of success and Term 3 is no exception. Our students in the Arts celebrated their gifts through performance at the following events:

  • The Catholic Arts Festival

  • The Jazz Lounge

Students at the Marian Campus have celebrated their learning by seeing their ideas come to life in the IDEAS Lab.

Students from Lavalla Campus have celebrated each other by showing gratitude and kindness. This week, we celebrated the Graduating Class of 2018.
