Remar Gold Graduation

On Tuesday 16 October, 27 Remar Gold Rowers celebrated their Gold Graduation. This event acknowledged the incredible achievement of Rowers who have been involved in the three-year program at the College. Throughout the evening, Rowers had the opportunity to affirm each other, thank their Helm, Mrs Rebecca Bramanto, as well as other significant adults who have helped them through their journey, including Brother Terry Orrell, Miss Louise O鈥橫ahany, Miss Clare Cole and Mr Daniel Litjens. The affirmations shared by the Rowers demonstrated the unique nature of the Remar program. Over the three crossings, Red (Year 10), Blue (Year 11) and Gold (Year 12), these remarkable young people have overcome challenges and obstacles to foster a caring and compassionate community that works for justice and peace.

Thank you to Mrs Rebecca Bramanto for her support and guidance of this amazing group of students over the last three years. Thank you also to Mr John Finneran, Mr Daniel Lynch, Mrs Lisa Fogliani, and other staff who attended. Thank you to our Marist Brothers, Terry Orrell, John Horgan and Noel Hickey for their attendance and living witness of what it means to be Marist.

Remar Red Leadership Camp

Last week, 21 Year 10 Remar students (also known as Rowers) attended the Remar Red Leadership Camp in Philip Island, Victoria. This annual three-day camp is held toward the end of the Red Crossing and is facilitated by the National Remar Ministry Team, with support from post school leaders and Helmspeople. It provides an opportunity for Rowers to meet others from across state borders, further building the sense of a wider Remar community.

The aim of the camp is to strengthen the Rower鈥檚 understanding of Christian life, built around the four spokes; prayer, ministry and service, community and faith development. Rowers were challenged to reflect on their personal call to be a Christian leader by 鈥淪ailing away from mediocrity鈥 with 鈥榙edication and sacrifice鈥. Those students who attended camp came back with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to put into practice all that they had learnt.

A huge thank you to the Red Helm, Miss Genna Spadaccini, and Year 8 Leader of Wellbeing, Mr Simon Martino, for accompanying our students to Victoria for this special camp.

Term 4 Week 3: From the Head of Primary

As we welcome our families back from a well-deserved holiday break, I have been amazed at the positive attitude our students have shown already this term. There is a buzz around both the Marian and Lavalla Campuses. The end of the year is in sight and the adventures of 2019 are just around the corner. In Week 2 we celebrated the gifts, talents and achievements of the Year 12 cohort at their Graduation, with many starting their schooling at 秀秀直播 in the sandpit at Marian Campus. It is remarkable that our College offers learning opportunities for students ranging from 3 – 18 years of age. The foundations that are developed through our Early Childhood program are strategically built upon each year, so those individuals graduating in Year 12 have real opportunities for their future. I would like to thank the hard work and dedication of our Primary staff for their contribution to the graduating Class of 2018.

Marcellin Award

Congratulations to the following students who have recently received a Marcellin Award in Weeks 1 and 2:

Jake Chivers, Year 2 Green – For listening during disagreements and giving others the benefit of the doubt, and believing them.

Ellie Crispin, Year 1 Red – For caring for a Year 2 student when they were injured, with love and compassion.

The Marcellin Award is presented to children who show, in their everyday actions and words, the spirit of the character of St Marcellin Champagnat. The Marcellin Award at Marian Campus is drawn from submitted nominations each Wednesday morning at Prayer Assembly. At Lavalla Campus, the Marcellin Award is presented at campus assemblies to one student selected by the Leadership Team from submitted nominations.

Telethon Speech & Hearing Crazy Sock Day – Get LOUD! 鈥 Friday 2 November

Telethon Speech & Hearing聽(TSH) is a charitable organisation that helps children with hearing or speech and language impairments, learn how to communicate, socialise and learn. They support school aged children in mainstream schools and have been working collaboratively with staff at 秀秀直播 for over 25 years. We will be holding an awareness raising event called It is a campaign to help support Western Australian kids to hear and speak. Last year 秀秀直播 invited staff and students to wear their brightest and loudest socks to school. This year, the event will be held on Friday 2 November and all students and staff are encouraged to wear colourful socks on the day. This simple act of helping to raise awareness for will make a real and significant difference to the children and families who attend Telethon Speech & Hearing and our school.

Parking at Marian

Parents are reminded that when parking in the streets surrounding the Marian Campus they must abide by the restrictions outlined on the gazetted signs. Parking restrictions are in place to ensure access and safety for parents during critically busy periods. As we are a part of the wider community, it is critical that all parents abide by the College Code of Conduct when interacting with members of the public and the Town of Cambridge. I appreciate all who are kind and courteous to our neighbours at drop off and pick up time. If you have any concerns regarding this please contact the College.

Running Club Finished for 2018

Please be aware that Running Club has finished for the year. This wonderful initiative has boosted fitness and camaraderie, while challenging our students during the athletic season. It was great to see so many participating. I hope that students make the most of opportunity in 2019.

Wellbeing Program

This term we continue to focus on gratitude to support the wellbeing of our students and to develop resilience. I would like to start the term by highlighting my gratitude to all of our families who positively support our students and our College.

Past Events

The children at 秀秀直播 are continuously engaging in motivating learning experiences. These enhance their education and assist in embedding the learned content. Some highlights from the past two weeks include:

Year 1 Woolworths Excursion

This term, the Year 1 cohort are focusing on healthy food. The Year 1 classes enjoyed an excursion to Woolworths where they learnt about the healthy rainbow and how important it is to eat a variety of coloured fruit and vegetables. We went into the freezer briefly to feel how cold it was -18! We felt different fruits in a bag and had to guess what they were by touch and smell only.

Catholic Education Western Australia STEM Slam Day

On Tuesday 16 October, ten Year 5 students (including Rio, Stefeno, Alex S, Jude, Dyllan, Olivia, Michael, Leonardo, Ava and Liam) were chosen to participate in the STEM day at CEO (Catholic Education Office) in Leederville. We arrived with some spare time so we looked at some solutions that other schools had come up with for things like, plastic pollution, over fishing and bush fires. We then listened to a presentation by the Year 4 students from Santa Clara on their project of Bentley 360 and how they were going to design a skate park. Then we did some STEM activities of our own. These activities consisted of tallest toothpick tower, build a working Lego fan, make your name with coloured beads representing code and researching how many light years each planet was away from us. Thank you Mrs Zelich for taking us on the day. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and can鈥檛 wait to put our new STEM skills and knowledge into practice in the classroom.

Liam Stannard and Ava Van Dommelen, Year 5 students

A group of Year 5 students were invited to spend the afternoon at the CEO to experience some amazing STEM projects and fun activities. When we arrived we went to look at the Stem Showcase. There were 31 student stalls and four professional stalls. At last it was time to go to the STEM Stage. We sat down and listened to the students from Santa Clara talk about their Bentley 360 project. It was very informative. We then went down to the STEM Slam and got to participate in fun activities like building robotic Lego windmills. Sadly the end of the adventure came to an end so we jumped back in the van and drove back to school.
