秀秀直播 News Term 2 Week 6: From the Head of Primary

At 秀秀直播 we foster creativity by promoting a growth mindset allowing students to achieve to their full potential. Staff have been trained in developing a growth mindset and research proves this way of thinking significantly benefits student learning. A growth mindset, a differentiated curriculum and our Vision for Learning allows each student to achieve success at their level, develop in confidence and be challenged while at school. In Year 1 this looks like students creating tallies, graphs and making predictions about favourite ice-cream flavours and in Year 6 it looks like students designing a device to detect natural disasters.

鈥淚 found the Confirmation Retreat very informative.听听We split into small groups and would always come back together to revise what we had learnt in each session.听听We watched movie clips on the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that we could see real life situations where each were used.听听After each activity we played some sort of game to loosen our minds.鈥澨齋tefan Constantine

Reconciliation Week听

Marcellin Award

Congratulations to William Raats in Year 1 who has been recognised with a Marcellin Award for his hard work and commitment in keeping the school grounds clean by picking-up rubbish at lunchtime.

Isabel Burton from 3 Blue is this week’s worthy recipient of the Marcellin Award on the Lavalla Campus. Isabel has been acknowledged by numerous members of staff as someone who works hard, gives 100% effort in all situations and sets a great example.

Isabel actively volunteers to help others both in and out of the classroom. She is willing to support her classmates while still ensuring her own work is completed. Isabel quietly goes about getting a job done without thought of acknowledgement or reward. She uses her initiative and always offers help if someone is injured or unwell.

Isabel is always happy to include anyone in games and activities. She are valued by others as a group member because she shows excellent leadership skills while also remaining humble and allowing others to take the lead as well. Isabel also celebrates her peers鈥 gifts and talents.

The Marcellin Award at Marian Campus is drawn from submitted nominations each Wednesday morning at Prayer Assembly. At Lavalla Campus, the Marcellin Award is presented at campus assemblies to one student selected by the Leadership Team from submitted nominations.

Bushland at Lavalla听

When walking home from school, students should not cross through the bushland between the Lavalla Campus and University Avenue.听听We encourage parents to use the Kiss and Ride facility provided where staff are on duty.

Tinkering听

On Thursday 6 June, Year 6 were involved in a STEM activity called TINKERING.听 Tinkering gives students the opportunity to be creative, think critically and collaborate in an inquiry-based approach to STEM-rich learning.听听The day allowed our Vision for Learning 鈥淪hine through Discovery鈥 to be present as the students took apart various electronic devices, labelled the parts, and noted the purposes and complexities.听 Students then used the parts to create a natural disaster detector.听听We were very fortunate to have Year 6 parents and grandparents assisting the students.

Positive Mindset听

At 秀秀直播 we strive to promote a positive culture to promote student learning. An area focused on by the College Councillors and Social Worker is the impact of negative self-talk. Please to access information that discusses this issue.

Parking/Pick Up听听

A reminder to all parents/guardians to please abide by the parking regulations in the streets surrounding the College.听听Unfortunately, at times some vehicles are blocking full access to surrounding streets and those parking on the verge are often a hazard on footpaths used by students and the public.听听This is a particular problem around University Avenue.听听Your support is appreciated, thank you.
