The Year 12 ATAR Music recital was held in the Marist Auditorium Studio 2 on Tuesday 4 September. The program featured performances by Mark Wilson (flute), Beth Redwood (voice), Edric Liang (violin), James Sharpe (bassoon), Jessica Gugliotta (voice), Amy Stegena (bass guitar), and Tommi Flamenco (bass guitar). The students entertained family and friends with repertoire from a variety of Classical, Contemporary and Jazz styles for their Semester 2 practical exam.

Congratulations to all students on successful performances and thank you to accompanists Lori Greco, Kathy Stanton, Frank Munoz and Norberto Flamenco, and instrumental teachers Heidi Lake, Lynda Luce, Rebecca McGregor, Kate, Pass, Rennae van der Laan and Shaun Liddel-Jennings for guiding their students on their music journey this year. Thank you also to family and friends for your attendance and ongoing support. Best wishes to the Year 12 Music students on their upcoming exams.

The Education Support Centre’s Fathers Day Craft Stall was well received by the parents and students from both the Primary and Secondary Campuses last week. The students made over $400 and next week the students will decide what to do with the money they have made. All students involved really enjoyed the experience and appreciated the whole school community support. We are looking forward to our next Craft Stall in December. Staff, parents and students are always welcome to come to the Centre to purchase giftware from the students throughout the school day.

Maths Week was a hit again this year for the students on the Marcellin Campus. As well as a daily PCG quiz, there was a number of interactive activities at lunchtime to ensure students had the opportunity to get involved and get excited about Maths. Students got to stretch snakes, rip Mintie wrappers, regurgitate pi, use their problem solving skills to complete Sudoku puzzles and work collaboratively to escape an Escape Room.

Year 8 student Brianna Berti won the snake charmer activity by stretching a snake to 101cm. Samuel Probert, Daniel Esposito, James Ganfield and Morgan Heinrich from Year 10 managed to escape from the Escape Room with the quickest time of 21 minutes and 35 seconds. Blake Arto from Year 7 won the regurgitating pi activity by regurgitating pi to 45 places. Grace Mitchell in Year 10 won the Mintie Rip challenge by ripping a Mintie wrapper to 142cm and Gisele Tognala from Year 8 won the Sudoku challenge (she was the only student to complete a hard Sudoko). Congratulations also to Year 8 Camara who got 40/40 to win this years PCG quiz.

Congratulations to all the winners and everyone who got involved in Maths Week. Special thanks to all the Mathematics staff who organised all of the activities for the students to enjoy.

Student Reflection

I enjoyed the Escape Room challenge as it didn’t just require simple Maths, it required problem solving skills and teamwork.

On Wednesday 29 August, 秀秀直播 hosted our R U OK? Day. This is a national day of awareness about mental health and suicide prevention as it affects all people in all walks of life. R U OK? aims to prevent suicide using four steps: 1. Asking the simple question 鈥淩 U Ok?鈥� 2. Listening without judgement. 3. Encourage action 4. Check in with the person.

We felt that it was important to voice this issue and educate the students on the Marcellin Campus about a very real and difficult topic that is not normally discussed in the classroom. This is our second year of running the R U OK? Day at 秀秀直播, and in under a year we have seen an immediate increase in this topic being discussed and shared in the classroom by teachers and students alike.

Thanks to the support and cooperation of Mrs Bramanto our Leader of Wellbeing, Mr Finneran and the College Psychologists, we were able to contact Glenn Gerber, a motivational speaker and partner with R U OK?. Glenn spoke to the Years 10 and 11 students during extended PCG.

Throughout the day students were encouraged to accessorise with yellow items; the colour of R U OK?. It was amazing to see so many students wearing yellow hats, wristbands, scrunchies and even yellow suspenders (worn by Liam Street one of our founders of the day). A concert was also planned during lunch but was unfortunately cancelled due to heavy rain.

On Friday 24 August, 51 students from the 秀秀直播 Dance Troupe performed at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival in the Creative Dance section. It was an amazing night filled with hard work, amazing performances and collaboration from students in Years 7-11. Troupe 1 performed a highly entertaining routine entitled 鈥楨nter the Circus鈥� with songs from the very popular 鈥楪reatest Showman鈥�, whilst Troupe 2 performed an intricate contemporary routine called 鈥楥onnect鈥�, showing how truly important we are to each other. to watch a video of ‘Connect’.

I was blown away at how professional each and every student was, and their hard work and dedication to them team. We look forward to performing these items along with many others at the 2018 Dance Showcase on Friday 26 October.

Student Reflections

This year, I had a wonderful experience at CPAF. The night went wonderfully; the dance looked amazing, the choreography, costumes, music and team characteristics were fabulous. Before we went onstage the whole troupe warmed up together and had a 鈥減ump up鈥� session. to watch a video. There were immense feelings of involvement and community. After the performance, I was delighted to receive many congratulations and complements for our performance. I enjoyed being able to talk with other students across the College ranging from Years 7-11 and bonding over dancing.

Wow! What an amazing experience it was to dance at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. The Junior Troupe鈥檚 theme was 鈥楨nter the Circus鈥� which was a high energy, acrobatics and jazz routine. Our appreciative audience acknowledged all the hard work, time and effort both Troupes put in and especially our inspiring and motivating Dance teacher, Miss Crothers. I have been so grateful for the opportunity to connect with other 秀秀直播 students and other Catholic schools, through dance. I also enjoyed being able to represent the College, doing something I love.

Catholic Performing Arts was an awesome experience that brought dancers of many age groups together with a common interest. It was an extremely welcoming and encouraging environment with all teams cheering each other on. In preparation for the event, both teams rehearsed before school to ensure we were prepared and confident for the performance. We went to the Convention Centre for the first three periods on the Friday, where we rehearsed our pieces and learnt more about how the night would run. We all wore our new 秀秀直播 Dance jacket and t-shirt which made us really look and feel like a team!

Later that night we all arrived ready and exited to perform. Troupe 2 was up first with their piece 鈥淐onnect鈥�, a contemporary routine which looked at how our current society struggles to connect with one another, and performed very well! We got excellent report feedback for technique and entertainment. Troupe 1 followed with their item 鈥淓nter the Circus鈥� which was an upbeat jazz routine with a mix of songs about the circus, and they performed extremely well too.

Catholic Performing Arts was a great experience and opportunity for all dancers on the team and brought us all close together as one dance family. A big thanks from the whole team to Miss Crothers for providing us with these opportunities and being an awesome choreographer.
