秀秀直播 News Term 3 Week 8: From the Deputy Principal Wellbeing Secondary

As our Year 12 students enter their final few weeks of course work, I would like to acknowledge their immense efforts this Term and I hope they achieve the results they are aspiring to. While many have achieved early entry into university and TAFE for 2021, I have been impressed with their ongoing commitment to their studies. I also acknowledge that most of our students from Years 7-11 will be working hard in completing several assessments before we break for the school holidays. I wish students well in these tasks and hope they can go on their break confident that they have put in plenty of effort and are proud of their achievements in Term 3.

Over the past few weeks we have been lucky enough to have several College camps and excursions take place, NAS sport continues, rehearsals for the College Production of Matilda re-commences and squad training for the upcoming ACC Athletics Carnival continues. With so much uncertainty in Term 2, it has been great to watch our staff and students embrace the activities on offer this Term.

Year 7 Disco

Last night the Year 7 cohort enjoyed coming together with the Year 12 Leaders to celebrate at the annual Year 7 Disco. Dressed in their best Neon attire, the students enjoyed dancing the night away with the highlight of the night being the Dance Off battle! Thank you to the Year 12 leaders for coordinating this event and a special mention to former student Aaron Tsalis Class of 2018 for being the DJ for the third year in a row.

Year 12 English ATAR Revision Seminars

Over the past two weeks, Year 12 English ATAR students have had the opportunity to participate in two workshops to assist in their preparation for the upcoming English Mock and ATAR Examinations.

In lieu of the annual Curtin University English Conference that students would normally attend, lectures were provided online to schools, so we held a viewing session of these workshops where students were able improve their skills in writing a composing task and reading film as a Multi-modal text.

This week, we were fortunate to have experienced ATAR marker and teacher Justine McGinnis deliver a seminar on how to succeed in the comprehension section of the ATAR exam. There was a strong focus on how to interpret key terms of the syllabus, how to read, interpret and analyze texts, and then apply these skills to formulating a response to a question. Those who attended took away some vital strategies and hints that can help them in the exam.

R U Okay? Day

Yesterday was R U OK? Day, the national day of action where we were reminded that every day is the day to ask, 鈥淎re you OK?鈥� if someone in your world is struggling with life鈥檚 ups and downs. 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and be willing to support those around us where we can.

This year鈥檚 theme was 鈥淭here鈥檚 more to say after R U OK?鈥�. Our Year 12 Wellbeing Captains, Meg and Ruby spoke at yesterday鈥檚 assembly about the importance of not just asking the question, but checking in regularly and encouraging other supports when needed, and an awareness raising event was held at lunchtime for students. We hope that the day was a reminder of the importance of looking out for one another, in fostering a connected and supportive College community. To continue the conversation, visit

In Your Head 2020 WA Youth Mental Health Forum

This week a number of our Years 9 and 10 Guild Representatives attended the In Your Head Youth Mental Health Forum. The aim of the day was to learn ways of maintaining good mental health from a range of keynote speakers and workshop facilitators.

The keynote speakers were Andrew Fuller, Georgia Wilson, Kendall Whyte and Lockie Cooke. The students engaged in breakout sessions covering topics including asking for help, social media and wellbeing, dealing with uncomfortable feelings and coping with exam stress. Students who attended discovered their learning strengths, the importance of mindset and discovered resources to assist them and their peers with their wellbeing.

NAS Sport

The Term 3 Winter NAS Sport season has wrapped up this week with our final fixture against Servite College. The season saw lots of great participation and healthy competition across all teams. It was fantastic to see students have the opportunity to be back involved in sport and engaged in activity given all the disruption in Semester 1. A big thank you to all staff who gave up their time to coach teams in what has been a very busy term.

ACC Athletics

Our Athletes are in the final phase of preparation for next week鈥檚 A Division ACC Athletics Carnival to be held at the State Athletics Stadium on Wednesday 16 September. Under the expert direction of our PE teachers and coaches, the team has trained extremely hard over the past two months and we look forward to the challenge of competing against the best ACC Schools in the state.

A big thank you to this year’s hospitality students who have prepared and delivered incredible breakfasts for our athletes all term. Warm cheese toasties and hot chocolates after a tough training session in the middle of winter have been greatly appreciated by the team.

The entire College community is right behind the squad and we are confident that our preparation will see our athletes achieve their personal best on the day.

Applying for University and TAFE

Recently the Year 12 students were provided with information on applying to University via TISC. Applications are now open and students have until 8 January 2021 to select their preferences. Please to visit the TISC website or contact the Pathways and Onsite Coordinator for further information.

Year 12 students interested in applying to TAFE next year are reminded that applications open on 1 September 2020 and close on 1 December 2020.

Changes to University entry options for 2021

In response to the current situation and associated disruption to Year 12 students, some WA Universities have announced that alternative entry pathways will be available to Year 12 students. Interested parents and students can check the latest information at the addresses below.

Catholic Performing Arts Festival 2020

Students enrolled in instrumental Music at the College were invited to participate in Catholic Performing Arts Festival through pre-recorded entries of their performance. We invited sound designer and engineer Mr Mason Velios to accompany our students and record their instrumental performance.

We had thirty students who were recorded this year. Some of these recordings will be shared with the Music community at the Spring Music Showcase.

The three performances (links below) are testimony to the talent we witnessed in the recording of these entries. Due to Covid-19 there is no adjudication, certificates or awards being presented this year. Students will however receive some feedback in relation to their recorded performance.

Dance Showcase

Divergence the 2020 秀秀直播 Dance Showcase will showcase a range of different dance styles, ideas and ways of moving. The students have been working hard all year to refine their technique, learn dances and create beautiful choreography of their own in preparation for this showcase. to purchase your tickets (on sale Friday 11 September, 5.00pm).

秀秀直播 News Term 3 Week 8: From the Leader of Early Childhood

There has been a great collection of celebration events over the course of Term 3 and this past fortnight has been no exception. One of the many limitations we have been faced with throughout the Covid-19 pandemic has been the limitations around community events. Therefore, it is even more special when we can come together as an Early Childhood community with our families in celebration. We acknowledge that families are a child鈥檚 first educator and constantly reflect on the very important role that families play in the life of our school community.

Fathers Day Sausage Sizzle and Liturgy

Thank you to the Fathers, Grandfathers, Father-figures and other significant people that attended our sausage sizzle breakfast and Liturgy last Thursday. We were grateful that the weather was good to us and allowed staff and students to celebrate the incredibly important role that the men in our lives play.

Research by , shows us that:

Fathers have a significant impact on the academic as well as the social and emotional wellbeing of children having lasting influences into their adult life
Children do better in school when their fathers are involved in their school, regardless of whether their fathers live with them or live apart
Children whose fathers participate in school activities, meetings and events also enjoy school more, are less likely to have behaviour issues and are more likely to participate in extracurricular activities
Fathers鈥� involvement has been shown to have a stronger influence on the children getting high grades than does mothers鈥� involvement

I extend my thanks to the Marian staff who cooked and served the sausages for all to enjoy and the Year 1 teachers and students for the beautiful Liturgy in celebration of our Dads.

Kindy Fathers Day Celebrations

There were lots of laughs and smiles as the Kindy Dads and students enjoyed some favourite dances and songs together in their Kindy rooms. An abundance of fun and laughter was shared as Dads showed off their dance moves and made some special memories with their children.

Marian Assembly

Thank you to Year 1 Green for the marvellous assembly today. It was great hearing about the learning in your classroom.

Marcellin Award

Congratulations to the following students who received a Marcellin Award in Weeks 7 and 8:

Hugo Taylor, Year 1 – For being such a beautiful example of St Marcellin during the STEM Festival Buddy activities. The manner in which you led the Ocean Habit activity with your Kindy Buddy demonstrated the Marist characteristics of Presence and Simplicity. Keep up the great work!
Billie Wyeth, Year 2 – For the dedication you have been displaying towards your learning. Billie, you have been a living example of the Marist Characteristic 鈥淟ove of Work鈥� in the effort and energy you have applied to your daily school work. Keep up the excellent effort!

The Marcellin Award at Marian Campus is drawn from submitted nominations each Wednesday morning at Prayer Assembly.

The Great Book Swap

Wednesday 2 September was National Indigenous Literacy Day and to celebrate we held a Great Book Swap on Friday 4 September at the Marian Campus. The event was made possible by all the generous book donations from the parents. The event was a wonderful opportunity to help support literacy for indigenous children in remote communities who don鈥檛 have access to quality literature. It was also a fun occasion for our students to enjoy selecting a book to take home to read and keep, while at the same time promoting sustainability. I am proud to announce that we raised a total of $407 that will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation on behalf of 秀秀直播.

Save the Date – Marian Athletics Carnival

Parents are warmly invited to join us for the Marian Athletics Carnival on Friday 25 September. Pre Primary – Year 2 students should be dropped off at Lavalla Campus from 8.30am. The Carnival will be held on the Lavalla Oval.

A coffee van will be available for purchases throughout the day. Parents are asked to please remain in the spectator area at all times throughout the carnival and not approach your child in their faction tent.

Children are welcome to join their family in the spectator area during the lunch break.
